Madhavi Hadker

I was born and brought up in a wonderful, cultured joint family. Everything was going on smoothly till the age of six, when I suffered from a viral infection called Encephalitis- which led to a high fever and paralyzed my right side. Due to this high fever, I had lost my memory, speech and neither was I able to recognize anyone. Whatever I had learnt from birth to age six was completely wiped out from my memory. This was because my left side of the brain had been affected by Cerebral Infarct which paralyzed my right side completely. I could not use my right hand or my right leg. I was in Bombay hospitalfor forty days.

After I recovered slowly, our family doctor suggested a good physiotherapistas I was not strong enough to attend school. So, once again, my painful physiotherapy sessions started at home and the biggest challenge: learning to do everything with my left hand! But I realized then that God had blessed me with a very strong will & with persistence and tenacity-I started going to school after a year…and learning everything from scratch.
Over the years, I studied to become a teacher–and succeeded only because of the tremendous love and support I received from my parents, sisters, teachers, friends and well-wishers. By God’s grace, I completed my Post graduation Diploma in Education Management, bagged a Degree in the fascinating subject Psychology & completed my Diploma course in Education (D.Ed) along with a Montessori course. Later in life, I also completed a Diploma course in Counselling.
Today, I am a confident, independent and a cheerful person – a teacher and a Counsellor by profession. I love writing short stories/articles and novels as a creative hobby. I am also very fond of sketching in black & white, reading, and travelling all over the world.Listening to music is my biggest stress buster…
So remember my dear friends- whatever challenges you may face in life…Never give up!

Do you have one sentence of advice for new writers?

 Just write or pen down all your thoughts in a special book called ‘your diary.’ When you write, let your thoughts just flow...  Wherever you travel, keep that diary with you as you don’t know when a thought will come to your mind or you will feel inspired to write.  Read as much as you can -so that you will know what genre you are good at: ghost stories, funny stories, travel writing, short stories, romance or scary stories. Once you know what your style is- GO FOR IT!  Also don’t just read but study how your favourite authors write– their style, how they create characters… & then go with the flow…
