K N RAGHAVAN was born in Kochi, Kerala, where he had his schooling. Having completed an MBBS degree from Government Medical College, Kozhikode, he was doing post-graduate studies in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Thiruvananthapuram when he decided to sit for the Public Services Examination and joined the Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Excise). In the course of his career, Raghavan has worked in places as varied as Hosur, Coimbatore, Kozhikode, Kochi, Mumbai and Singapore. He was Commissioner of Customs at Kochi from 2012 to 2017, and is presently Chief Executive Officer, Norka Roots, Thiruvananthapuram.

Like most Indians, Raghavan is passionate about cricket. A BCCI accredited umpire, he has umpired One Day Internationals. He has also authored two other books – The World Cup Chronicle and Vanishing Shangri La: History of Tibet and Dalai Lamas in 20th Century. Married to an ENT surgeon; they have one daughter.

Achievements:

- Dr Raghavan completed his MBBS and was doing his post graduate studies when he joined Indian Revenue Service in 1990.
- In his career, he has worked as Principal Commissioner of GST in Mumbai and headed Customs and DRI formations in Kerala.
- He also served a term as First Secretary in Indian High Commission at Singapore.
- He headed organisations such as Tea Board of India, Kerala state Rubber Marketing Federation and is presently posted as Executive Director of Rubber Board of India, Chairman of Marine Products Export Development Authority of India and Chairman of International Rubber Study Group (IRSG).
- He is an umpire accredited with Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He has umpired One Day Internationals, besides numerous first class matches. He was also involved in cricket administration for a short tenure.
- He has penned five books, including two works of fiction. The topics covered range from cricket to India China relations to history of Tibet and Dalai Lamas. He writes a weekly column on sports in onmanorama.com.
- Dr Raghavan is a long distance runner and takes part in marathons.
