That I have claustrophobia, I sleep with my fingers curled and I can’t whistle.

What’s your greatest fear?

To be locked in a closed dark space where I can’t breathe.

What is your greatest achievement?

I have reached every single milestone that I had set myself for, be it personal or professional, independently and without making any compromises on my values and ethics. The contentment is my greatest achievement.

High point of your life?

The release of my first book, Ardh-Satya and other stories.

I wish I could fly.

I am the evening melody of the temple conch shell, the slice of a crescent moon, the hop skip patterns you suddenly stumble upon on lonesome tiring roadways, the intricate motif on a blue baluchari saree, the flower that adorns your loosely tied bun, the sweet fragrance of the moist earth as rains sweep across your courtyard, the caress of a warm blanket on cold winter nights I am revolution, I am speech, I am my favourite me, I am Ananya, and I am invincible.

If you had a time machine to take you back to any country and any time period, where would you choose to be for your childhood, adolosent , adult life and silver years?

To go back to the apple and cherry orchards, the breath taking backdrop of my childhood in Kashmir.

If you could acquire any talent, what would it be?

Singing

Which book you wish you had written ?

The one that I am now writing finally.

When and where do you write ?

All the time, everywhere. On my phone book en route the drive to work, in long haul flights 35000 ft above the ground, in kitchen towels as I cook up a weekend meal, in the quiet tranquility of my bedroom late at night.

Do you have one sentence of advice for new writers?

Don’t be driven by numbers. Be driven by your passion for writing. Write for the love of writing, not to sell, not to win awards. Pour your soul into your writing and see how beautifully the world will connect to you.
