What is your greatest achievement?

Having a story published at the age of 7 and a half – on my mother’s birthday!

High point of your life?

Being shortlisted for the Scholastic Asian Book Award 2016!

Low point of your life

I’m too much of an optimist to remember the low points

Who is your favorite fictional hero?

I have lists and lists of favourites

Who are your favorite authors?

J.K. Rowling, Roald Dahl, Julia Golding, Enid Blyton, Michael Morpurgo …

What are your 5 favorite books of all time?

This is impossible! Books that come to mind immediately are: The Harry Potter series, Matilda Goodnight, Mister Tom, Journey to the River Sea, The Girl Savage. But if you ask me tomorrow, I’ll have a different list altogether!

Is there a book you love to reread?

I love rereading any book that I enjoyed the first time around, but top rereads are books that transported me to laughter and tears.

One Superpower you wish you had?

Only one? The power to grant wishes!

If you could acquire any talent, what would it be?

Always – to write better and better and better

When and where do you write ?

Usually in the mornings when everyone is asleep. First draft – pencil and paper, sitting at my table. All the subsequent drafts – at my computer in a beautiful study. That said, another correct answer to the same question would be anytime and everywhere!

Silence or music?

Silence!

One phrase that you use most often?

I think readers and students would answer that better!

Do you have a writing ritual / superstition?

My first draft is always in pencil. I think it began with the idea that I could erase anything that was embarrassingly bad. But erasing is more trouble as an adult than I remember it being as a child.

Do you have one sentence of advice for new writers?

Yes! When you send your first manuscript out, begin working on the second. That way, when rejection comes, it doesn’t hit that hard.
