Anyone that I know pretty well, deserting me, without rhyme or reason.

My personable demeanor.

High point of your life?

A train journey where I found a companion for the rest of my journey called ‘Life’.

A spurned love burnt my soul for ever, when I couldn’t pursue ‘cricket’ as a career.

Jim Carrey (as an actor and the character roles he plays!)

Phantom (The ghost who walks!).

Sher Khan (The ‘Tiger’ in Jungle Book!)

To instantly know what someone perceives of me when I meet them up for the first time.

He came. He weathered. He ‘conquered’ the world around him.

If you had a time machine to take you back to any country and any time period, where would you choose to be for your childhood, adolosent , adult life and silver years?

Maternal ancestral home during my childhood. In the priceless company of my cousins, during my adolescence. In the company of my better-half. The silver years will be dedicated all to myself, exploring people and places.

If you could acquire any talent, what would it be?

Playing drums.

When and where do you write ?

I have a tendency to pen down my stories during wee hours of the morning at home, in-flight, in train and frame my stories during my routine morning runs, washroom, public places etc.

Music

One phrase that you use most often?

I am patient with stupidity but not with those who are proud of it.

Do you have a writing ritual / superstition?

I have to compulsorily include some bit of my personal experience into my stories – either a character or a situation or both.

What’s your guilty reading pleasure?

Tinkle.

Do you have one sentence of advice for new writers?

If personality is unique, so is any writer.

Commander R Upendra Babu is a Commissioned Officer in the Indian Navy, commissioned into the Engineering Branch in 1993. He is an alumnus of the Indian Naval Academy. Having graduated from the Naval College of Engineering, INS Shivaji, Lonavla (under the aegis of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi) with a B.Tech (Mech), he completed his Post Graduation in M.E (Mech/Marine) from the Institute of Armament Technology (IAT), Pune, conferred by Pune University.

He underwent further specialised training to be inducted into the Submarine Arm of the Indian Navy. He has held various appointments such as Operational, Staff and Training. He is presently appointed at the Naval Selection Board, Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu).

The author, hailing from Kerala, has undergone the major part of his education in Bengaluru, Karnataka. He is an alumnus of Kendriya Vidyalayas Malleswaram, ASC and Jalahalli. He is also the alumnus of BEL College and MES College of Arts, Commerce and Science.
