Three things people don’t know about you?

I’m working on a trilogy — Spellbound: Arose from the Ashes, My books and mystical artwork aim to promote diversity in literature and art, I believe art imitates life. The historical background of my novel, The Mystery of the Rose is drawn from the life/times of my two great-grandfathers. Sardar Natha Singh served as the ADC to Prince Nau Nihal Singh at the Courts of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. As Custodian of Shahpur Kandi Fort, he fulfilled the tough assignment of safekeeping/ferrying the famous Koh-I-Noor Diamond to Bombay in route to London with his four confidants. Captain Ram Singh was a royal guest at the Coronation of King Edward V11 in England 1902 and at the State Durbar in Delhi in 1903.

What’s your greatest fear?

Food Safety: We are being fed highly fertilized, genetically modified (GMO) foods which are killing us and our children. We must boycott GMO industries.

What is your greatest achievement?

Being the recipient of the Governor General's Commemorative Medalfor helping the RCMP Commissioner Norman Inkster diversify the national Force; documenting the historical community based policing initiatives in the book, The Changing Face of the RCMP. The books were placed in Solicitor-General of Canada’s Departmental Library in Ottawa and the RCMP Centennial Museum in Regina.

High point of your life?

When my debut novel, The Mystery of the Rose: The Return of the Prince was nominated for the 2013 Crossword Book Award.

Low point of your life

The deaths of my father, mother and grandfather.

Which living person do you most admire?

Amitabh Bachchan.

Life never moves backwards. It moves forward. I like to move forward.

Complete silence an hour before bedtime. One hour of music every day.

One phrase that you use most often?

The best way to predict our future is to create it.

Do you have a writing ritual / superstition?

My writing ritual is deeply intertwined with my drawing/painting ritual. I think in mystical art, poetry and prose simultaneously. I write fiction with stories drawn from the real life. I weave my stories with poetry, supernatural imagery and illustrations. My stories have been described as historical, mystical, lyrical, magical, spiritual and powerful.

Do you have one sentence of advice for new writers?

“A line will take us hours maybe; yet if it does not seem a moment’s thought, our stitching and unstitching has been naught,” said WilliamButler Yeats.

Sukh D. H. Khokhar is a Canadian author/lyricist/graphic artist/educator and a freelance writer, who pioneered the race relations movement in northern Manitoba and promoted it to the national level; raising awareness of the minority issues and human rights by delivering successful interactive workshops to schools/businesses and community groups and coordinating radio programs for 24 years into the millennium. A recipient of Governor General's Commemorative Medal, she is the author/compiler of a series of multicultural education resource books. She is the author of The Mystery of the Rose: The Return of the Prince, her debut novel (in paperback and illustrated e-Book), and an upcoming illustrated mystical adventure Dark Mystery: I'm a Demon. I'm a Ghost, Journey Through Darkness Into Light.
