What’s your greatest fear?

My greatest fear is that I might lose my ability to express myself someday. And then, I won't be able to write.

What is your greatest achievement?

I think this book is my greatest achievement till now. In my wish list, this story was on top. so when I see this in my hand It feels like a life time achievement award.

High point of your life?

Coming from a background where women are not allowed to work, My high point was when I got my first job. It's been 13 years since I am working in this IT industry but the happiness and freedom I felt that day is still incomparable to any other thing. So when my IT journey started, it was my high point.

Low point of your life

"There was a point where I was struggling with my desire to study further but due to some circumstances, I could not pursue it. All of sudden life felt meaningless and purposeless. That was the time when I was fighting with the mindsets of two different generations and I almost gave up on my dreams of being financially independent. That was low time and it took me a lot of time to gather myself and start all over again. "

Which living person do you most admire?

I admire Sadhguru and Shri Narendra Singh Modi. Sadhguru for his wisdom and Modi ji for his fearlessness. I think they both made India really proud.

Who is your favorite fictional hero?

Recently I read the ACTOR series by Sarah.J.MAss and I would choose Rhysand from it. I think he is the most desirable fictional hero I have ever read.

Who is your favorite fictional villain?

I have’nt come across any fictional villain who is my favorite.

Who are your favorite authors?

Elif Shafak, Khalid Hosseini,Taylor jenkin raid, Fedrick backman, Madeline Miller

What are your 5 favorite books of all time?

The Palace of illusion, Forty rules of love, A pearl that broke its shell, A little life and Bhagwat Geeta.

Is there a book you love to reread?

I would name two books here, Bhagwat Geeta and Forty rules of love by Elif Shafak. First book obviously, is a guide how to live life and second book is not about the love we see these day. It’s actually about the love we need in our life.

What are your 5 favorite movies of all time?

" Tanu weds Manu series, 5 to 7, Dear Comrade, Rockstar, Mann "

One Superpower you wish you had?

I wish I had power to go anywhere without stepping out of my house. I hate travelling but I really want to see the world and experience new culture.

Your epitaph would read? /Last line in your biography would be?

In the end nothing would matter, so let that be. Do what you feel is right.

If you had a time machine to take you back to any country and any time period, where would you choose to be for your childhood, adolosent , adult life and silver years?

I haven’t traveled anywhere apart from India. And I love India and I would always choose to live here. So to be honest I don’t have any answer to this question. But I would really like to stay in Paris for a while. It’s been my dream since I was in college.

If you could acquire any talent, what would it be?

I would really love to learn Indian traditional dance. Any traditional Indian Dance. I think they those dances just look graceful and beautiful on stage while performing. I wish I could do that too.

Which book you wish you had written ?

I wish I had written “ The Palace of illusion” by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni . It is such a intriguing retelling of Mahabharat from the perspective of Draupdadi. I have already read it twice and I am going read it few more times. It is incredible.

When and where do you write ?

I write in the morning, with my morning tea. When my head is still heavy with all the emotions and things which I want to unwind. I write in my home office. I have small floor bed there, its my writing and thinking place

Silence or music?

During the day, you’ll always find me with my earpods. I work in my office with music blasting into my ears. But when I write, I go all silent. Inside outside.

One phrase that you use most often?

Kindness is free, spend it freely.

Do you have a writing ritual / superstition?

I don’t have any writing ritual. But while writing this book I made sure that I wrote atleast 500 words a day no matter what.

What’s your guilty reading pleasure?

My guilty reading pleasure is reading sad books. I know they mess up your head but I think we learn a lot about human emotions from them.

Do you have one sentence of advice for new writers?

Just write what you feel. Don’t try to sugar coat it for the world. Write for yourself.

Monika Bhatti was born and raised in a small village called/named Gamri in Delhi. Her father was a farmer and her mother, a housewife. Monika was fortunate that she was raised in a large family of aunts and cousins, which helped her to understand their inner worlds.
She did her graduation in Literature from Delhi university where she falls in love with stories. Later, she completed her master's in computer application and currently working in an IT company.
Her love for stories never faded. Though she is a software engineer, she always wanted to become a writer. This is her debut novel which talks about women’s suppression and child abuse. In her words, her childhood plays an important part in this story. Her surrounding is what shaped it.
This book is her way to educate people about this topic. And how important it is to be kind towards others. Be it, Men or Women. Be it a girl or boy child. No human on this earth deserves such violence. This book is her attempt to spread the message of kindness and love.
