I am a lawyer by profession, though I have been writing for many years; I believe that the time has come for women to shatter the glass ceilings everywhere.

What’s your greatest fear?

My greatest fear is not having enough time to do all the things I want to.

What is your greatest achievement?

I believe that one’s greatest achievement is always the next one, this inspires you to keep working hard.

Which living person do you most admire?

As an author, I’d say I admire J.K. Rowling the most, not only for her writing style or her imagination, but also for her journey, how she picked up her failures and low points in life and transformed them into something beautiful and ever-lasting.

Who is your favorite fictional hero?

As cliché as it may sound, Mr.Darcy.

Who are your favorite authors?

My favourite Indian author is Vikram Seth, among others I love Enid Blyton for being the first author to engage me in reading, Haruki Murakami for his abstract narrative, Dan Brown for the momentum and pace he brings to his novels, Oscar Wilde for his ability to handle all forms of writing with equal panache and Harper Lee for showing that its quality and not quantity that matters.

When and where do you write ?

I write at home, at work when I have free time, in cafes, I really don’t see the place; I write whenever I feel like writing.

Do you have a writing ritual / superstition?

Not really, I try to keep 3-4 hours free every time I sit down to write and a cup of hot ginger tea by my side, because writing is not just about throwing words on paper but thinking and researching as well

Do you have one sentence of advice for new writers?

If you enjoy writing, if it makes you happy from within, keep doing it. Don’t think about success or failure as a writer, a good book will eventually sell but for a book to be successful, the earnestness of the writer is the biggest selling point.

Mini Gautam is a lawyer by profession who has had a flair for writing since early days of her life. She has received numerous accolades for writing during the past years; this is her first published novel. She completed her Degree in Law from ILS Law College, Pune, and Masters in International Financial Law from King’s College, London. She has worked for many prominent corporate houses of India before starting her own independent consulting specialising in corporate and commercial law.
