I cosplayed as Jon Snow and Captain America in Comic-con, I can't lose in a Never Have I Ever game, I don't like chocolates or dessert (explains why the book is so dark)

What’s your greatest fear?

Cats. No wonder I empathized with Imhotep from The Mummy

What is your greatest achievement?

When my parents were called to join me on stage by Ram Jethmalani when he was conferring me an award. That sure did wonders to my college allowance in that year.

High point of your life?

When I first held a copy of Sons of Darkness in my hand. This is what mothers must feel when they hold their babies for the first time.

Low point of your life

The three months I was completely alone during the pandemic. The market value of human connection sky-rocketed for me then.

Mom (and Neil Gaiman)

One Superpower you wish you had?

Teleportation. How I would milk this superpower to satiate that wanderlust!

On tombstone: I would've preferred a pyramid/ Last Line in Biography: In the end, he was killed by a time-traveling hero to save the world from a gorgeous tyrant.

If you had a time machine to take you back to any country and any time period, where would you choose to be for your childhood, adolosent , adult life and silver years?

I am a 90s kid. My childhood was spent in the most-perfect era- So, I wouldn't travel anywhere else. For my teenage-college life, I would love to head to the Hippies Era in the US and carry Stop The War posters before the White House. For my adult life, I would head to the Age of Pharaohs to figure out how did they build that insane pyramid. For my silver years, I would to head to Athens (at its peak) and sip wine, discussing philosophical queries all night long. Just Socrates and Chill.

If you could acquire any talent, what would it be?

To be able to do card flourishes. I think they look wicked. Also, big Gambit fan.

Which book you wish you had written ?

Neverwhere (by Neil Gaiman)

When and where do you write ?

Whenever the Muses are feeling benevolent. My desk at the corner of my room is my safe space.

Music

One phrase that you use most often?

This is Sparta! (whenever I ambush my little brother)

Do you have a writing ritual / superstition?

"I make an entreaty to the Greek Muses to bestow inspiration. As Shakespeare writes in his opening lines of the prologue to The Life of Henry the Fifth: “ O for a muse of fire, that would ascend The brightest heaven of invention …” And I like it when ambient music floats through my space when I write."

What’s your guilty reading pleasure?

Twilight. Any Dan Brown.

Do you have one sentence of advice for new writers?

You can become a better writer only by reading every day.

A gold medallist from SLS, Pune, Gourav Mohanty currently practices law in Mumbai. He has also dabbled with policy work. He moonlights as a stand-up comic, a blogger and an amateur dancer & artist.
