Three things people don’t know about you?

• I admire solitude. I have experienced first hand how solitude has the power to get out the best in us and exposes us to the deepest parts of our soul. I am not anti social or a loner on the contrary I love socializing. However for us to be able to connect with our core self solitude is a must! • I have been practicing meditation for the past 11 years. I have also realized during this time that meditation is not a 1 hour activity every morning. Meditation is about being in a meditative state of mind and is a 24 by 7 thing. • Growing up I wanted to be an astronaut and clearly my destiny had a different calling. My quest into spirituality also made me realize that we are all travelers in space and time. This lifetime is about spending time on a spaceship called earth.

What’s your greatest fear?

I am a very strong headed person who feels with an equally strong heart. I am not bragging here and those who know me also admire this about me. My greatest fear is facing myself when my strong head and heart go into a negative mode of thinking and feeling! Two sides of the same me I guess and I always try to stay on the right side.

What is your greatest achievement?

Publishing my first book “Seek” in 2014 with Leadstart was my greatest achievement thus far.

High point of your life?

I was selected as the deputy head boy of my school and just my pic of the ceremony was put in the local newspaper. We went to watch a movie later that day and there was this guy on a bench reading the same newspaper there. I asked him for the paper and should him my pic. Never quite felt more high than that!

Low point of your life

My Mom’s demise. She was my pillar and the greatest spiritually conscious person I have ever known. One of the greatest lessons I learnt from her was to brace pleasure and pain equally, for life is a balance between the two.

Which living person do you most admire?

Dwayne Johnson - The Rock, I grew up watching this dude from the time he was in WWF and wow what a journey he has had. He is an inspiration! The best part is we both believe in the fact that no matter what always be and believe in who you are deep down. You feel me...

Who is your favorite fictional hero?

As a child it was “He-Man” and “Giant robo”. As a teen I use to read a lot of “Doctor Who” and absolutely loved this character. Then it was Silver surfer as the idea of surfing the universe in a surf board was so awesome. I would prefer not looking for planets for Galactus though! As of today I am actually confused about who I like more weather in DC or Marvel. They all are super cool although Wonder-woman really fascinates me!

Who is your favorite fictional villain?

I always thought that bad guys were just bad and should not never be a favorite. Well that opinion has changed! Although I never can pick a favorite Hero I do have a favorite villain and that is Thanos. I love the line where he says, “I’m the only one who knows that. At least I’m the only one who has the will to act on it.”

Who are your favorite authors?

Well I don't have any favorite authors really just favorite books. Since I developed my desire to learn spiritual philosophy I have been reading almost anything and everything I could get my hands on.

What are your 5 favorite books of all time?

• The Bhagavad Gita • The Tao of Physics – Fritjof Capra • Treasure Island – Robert Stevenson • Robinson Crusoe – Daniel Defoe • The Adventures of Tintin – Explorers on the Moon

Is there a book you love to reread?

Treasure Island by Robert Stevenson. Although I have not reread this book in a while this is one book I have reread the most. I was first introduced to this book in school when I was in fifth standard and it was a part of rapid reading class. I was so much in love with this book that my parents were worried about how I used to be stuck with this book all day. During our parent teacher meet my mom even mentioned this to my English teacher and how I would ignore all my other important English books and be stuck with this one from rapid reading.

What are your 5 favorite movies of all time?

That’s a long list as I am a movie lover! • Rambo – First blood part 2 – 1985 • Mard - 1985 • Robocop – 1987 • Armageddon – 1998 • Rang De Basanti – 2006

One Superpower you wish you had?

Immortality – And it is not because I want to live forever however it's because time is always against us. We think we have time in this life but we are always short of it. I believe that a person can do and become anything they wish to as long as they have enough time to practice and perfect it.

Your epitaph would read? /Last line in your biography would be?

“He lived knowing you will never find him here”

If you had a time machine to take you back to any country and any time period, where would you choose to be for your childhood, adolosent , adult life and silver years?

Well as a child I would love to visit the time during the building of the great pyramids of Giza and hopefully meet Moses. Always have been fascinated by that time in history. For my adolescent time I would like to travel to wherever and whenever I could find the Buddha. Adult life I would like to live at the time of the Renaissance in Italy and share with all the great dudes from that time what I had learned from the Buddha and Egypt. Probably some romance during this time would also be a good idea. And lastly I would like travelling to the future to a time where probably space travel is as normal as driving a car. I would like to spend the rest of my years travelling the stars, you know like Star Trek.

If you could acquire any talent, what would it be?

I would love to be a talented Mathematician. They say Mathematics is a language however I could never get my head around what it is trying to say! Maybe some day I will figure it out.

Which book you wish you had written ?

Well I don't have one. Something you might find surprising about me is that despite being an author I am not the greatest fan of reading or writing books although I have read my fair share in my self study over the years. For me being an author is more like a means to an end. I have realized a ton of things in my spiritual quest and being an author is a way that I share it with this world.

When and where do you write ?

Usually between 4 pm to 6.30 pm at Starbucks, Viviana Mall, Thane.

Silence or music?

A bit of both as they both have helped me find the real me!

One phrase that you use most often?

The usual however not appropriate to mention here. Maybe some day if we meet you will know!

Do you have a writing ritual / superstition?

Not really! I like intuitive writing though so I let the words flow out first and then bother making sense out of them.

What’s your guilty reading pleasure?

Well it’s a secret guilty pleasure!

Do you have one sentence of advice for new writers?

It's not about being a writer, it's about being You!

My name is Atchuthan Carvalho and I am from Mumbai. I have completed my Masters in English Literature from Mumbai University. I am 35 and have been working for the past 12 years in the service industry. Despite being quite good at my profession as a leader I always felt that my true calling was more spiritual. My quest into spirituality has been going on for the past 11 years however I must admit that my inclination towards nature, God and my own soul has been since I was a child. I remember once when I was in kindergarten asking my mom if God has a switch for us and if he puts us off then what would happen!
Spirituality for me is not a field of study and if it was I don't think it would have made me so curious. Spirituality for me is a truth and an eternal one that is beyond all that is temporary. Its about seeking that ever lasting essence that is really us and beyond which there is nothing more to be said or done. It is the only thing that matters in the course of eternity. I obviously realized soon enough that there is not a book or a teacher or a school that can teach me or show me what I seek. They can all suggest ways, however ultimately it is up to me and know first hand what this eternal truth is about. Hence while living and doing whatever I must, deep down my quest continues. This journey has been liberating and full of challenges that constantly dictate self change. It's a constant breaking free from one's own mind that think and feels bonded where as in truth we are all free.
Self realization is the only goal worth having!
