About the book-

Meet Nishant, Suraj and Sachin, three “unlucky” guys. Finding themselves stuck in the thirty-fifth century B.C after being plunged by a near death experience into a time portal, their luck flips around. They find themselves trapped in a bloody conflict raging between two opposing dynasties. They stumble upon a dynastic princess and her new born baby and resolve to unite her with her prince from the opposing dynasty. During their quest, they must seek a time locator that could allow them to return to their own time but not before they discover fantastical weapons which give them various supernatural powers. Overseeing the evil in the world, a demonic sorcerer wields the blackest magic and destroys the whole dynastic army. Can the three stop him or will they, like the army, perish in the attempt? Will they be able to finally return to their own time? Can they overcome their bad luck or has destiny planned something else for them?

Review-

I got the book in exchange of an honest review. In India an Author need lots of courage to write a science fiction and I really appreciate Nishant Joshi for this book.

When I held the copy of History Revisited in my hands, the first thing which attracts me towards it was it’s cover and second thing was it’s title. So, I expected a lot from this book.

Time travel has always been a favorite and most interesting concept for the humans and this is the reason why I expected a lot from this book.

Writing style of the Author is very simple and easy to understand. I really like the journey of  Nishant, Suraj and Sachin to discover the samay locator. The pace of the book was nice from start to end. And yes, ending of the book was fantastic. Narration was fine but editing could be little more impressive. For sometimes I lost my interest from the story and that’s why I skipped some pages. But overall a great effort by the Author.

My thoughts on this book:

“Science-Fiction”, the word in itself means something unique and interesting. We all love to watch Sci-fi movies, shows, and even we love to read about sci-fi stories. This time when it comes to my reading experience, the novel “History Revisited” is first of its kind. This story is totally inspired from sci-fi. Author Nishant Joshi has served a very interesting and unique story, which everyone will surely love to read.

The story of this book related with three guys, who by mistake travelled into a time portal and reached the era of 4000 B.C. This story looks kickass at first experience. I mean it’s not very common to read such stories. The imagination behind this book really needs to be complimented. Author has presented a great combination of action, emotions, love and friendship. The scenes that author has created in his book, makes you feel like your imaginations are coming true. The back cover synopsis is important for a book, when it comes to attract readers, this book fulfill on that need too. The Author has brilliantly woven his words to create an eye catching story. From the first page to the last, there is hair raising twist and turn on every next page.

When it comes to drawbacks of this book, I really need to say that on my margin this book is a onetime read. Yeah! Sometimes author’s narration fails in describing the scenarios. As I went through this book, few chapters are like brilliant and few are also like boring stuff. But, this is a really nice attempt by author.

I got this book for exchange of a honest review. I would like to thank the Author of this book “Mr. Nishant Joshi” for presenting such a wonderful story. I’ll be waiting for his future creations from his pen.

Cover:

In the field of looks, this book is really heart-winning. The graphics shown of the cover is just magnificent. It is catchy and beautiful. The cover also determines the story to a little. But the main work for a book cover is to attract readers and implies the book’s content, this covers fulfill to both these criteria’s. The color scheme of the cover is very catchy and attractive.

Review:
I started this book as assuming me being a child. As I started reading, I was getting surprises (as I said, I changed myself to a child) and it was purely magical for me. Blurb of the book could have been better as it failed to provoke me to choose this book as most of the books with good blurb makes a reader curious about its ending. As it was purely science-fiction, the scenes were beautifully written. But it was boring at some point and specially his fighting scene was extended much which was not at all necessary. Editing of the book is upto the mark and the cover is also magical and appropriate.
I Like-
1) Title of the book.
2) Plot.
3) Fictious scenes.
4) Happy for the 3 guys, as their luck changed and they become millionaire.
I dislike-
1) Fighting scene
2) Blurb
3) Ending could be better.
I thanks to Enigmatic team for providing me a review copy and congratulate the author for his debut novel. And yes, it’s good that you have given your name to one of the characters. *smiles*

BOOK REVIEWS

History Revisited *Review*

Jpeg

I have been wanting to lay my hands on an Indian sci-fic book and when I went through “History Revisited” by Nishant Joshi, there were lot of expectations built up for such a young author. After reading the book, the first questions popping my mind were:

  1. What’s the difference between sci-fiction novel and a historical fiction?
  2. How do you do justice to the sci-fiction genre?

If anything I would rather put this book in the historical fiction category more than in sci-fic. Why is the author made to believe that this goes in the sci-fic genre is beyond my understanding. Maybe because of the time travel concept? I really don’t know. However, reading the book, what I know is that this book is an ambitious project taken up by Nishant Joshi and I would really applaud his courage to venture into a genre that has hardly any takers in India.

More about the book…….

The cover of the book seems to be a take from some graphics of a foreign storyline and hardly does justice to the Indian-ness of this story. It seems to be contradictory to the image the story conveys.

Time Travel has always been a favourite concept of humans and Indian Philosophy abounds with the notions of time and space. This popular concept is the basis of the whole story. So while the experiences of Nishant, Suraj and Sachin are nicely described, the depth of experience that the sci-fic demands is missing mainly because the protagonists are still of the present era rather than of the past. This allows the beginner reader (for sci-fic genre reading) easier.

Ahh! Mumbai and it’s fixation with vada-pav will never go off. So we do have reminders dotted in the whole novel about the vadapav obsession.:-)

So what’s the verdict?

Pick it and enjoy it and though you might find the gaps into the present day thinking in the past time journey, take it at your stride and get going ahead with the reading. Also, do encourage Nishant to write more sci-fic…. we need more authors in this genre and my hopes are that Nishant will do justice in more books that shall come!

REVIEW- History Revisited is Sci-fiction by author Nishant Joshi with the touch of historical fiction. Kudos to the writer for writing a sci-fi genre book which indian authors find difficult to grasp.

Book Title and Cover- Book Title is interesting and is appropriate while book cover shows one of the battle scene mentioned in the book. Blurb is interesting enough but there is always something to improve. It could have been more interesting. Overall first impression of the book is well and attracts the readers.

Language and Narration- Language used in the book is simple, without traffic of difficult words. Font and Pages used are reader friendly. Narration of the book is straightforward and impressive.

Storyline and Plot- Storyline and Plot of the book is interesting and keeps the readers hooked with the book.First chapter of the story is interesting but as story continues it started losing my attention. Few incidents in the book were completely out of the story and should be removed to keep the readers attracted.Fighting scenes were too long to read. Also there are few typing errors which should be considered in next edition of the book.

Rating-
1. Book Cover and Title- 3.2/5
2. Language and Narration- 3.5/5
3.Storyline and Plot- 2.5/5

Final Rating- 3/5

Overall History Revisited is one of the few sci-fi novel written by an Indian Author. It will surely entertain you if read lightly. You can grab your copies from Amazon, Flipkart and any bookstore near you.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Self introduction of the author, Nishant Joshi:”I am a final year engineering student of Electronics and Telecommunication at Mumbai University. I was born in Lucknow, U.P and since my father had a transferrable job, we migrated to various cities. From Lucknow to Bhubneshwar, then to Kanpur, then Delhi, then again Lucknow and then, finally to the city of dreams Mumbai. I have grown in an era that was full of science fiction elements be it television cartoons like Shaktiman and Dragon Ball Z, films like Spiderman and Star Wars or the never ending list of science fiction computer games. Seeing this, I was greatly inspired by them but was unhappy about not finding anything as such in my own country except a handful of such things but which were completely restricted only to epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata. Would you call them Science fiction!?! Therefore, I set out on my journey to pen down sci-fi novels since our country is literally void of it. Even if you see other countries, the biggest business comes out of science fiction be it novels, films or computer games as compared to India where love and romance is the only thing. Lame isn’t it!!! The taste of especially the youth of our country is very different and the wise will see that it’s bending towards science fiction. Thus, I feel impelled to contribute as much as possible to science fiction which is going to be the landmark and milestone of the present and the coming future.”

MY THOUGHTS:

Cover: It shows a soldier in the battlefield with a powerful weapon. Writing:  Plain and ordinary. Plot: Three loser friends travel back in time and recreates history.Reading the book, I felt as if the author had some story-idea in his mind and he just vomited out his thoughts on paper. Not one character was properly thought out or introduced. The three friends were construction workers earning ninety rupees a day, ate only vada-pavs but had android cellphones. It was never really explained why they had to leave home. As the story began, immediately they traveled back in time through a portal. The threesome did a lot of irritating crying and hugging. They could execute their plans immediately and very easily; “I somehow did it” but never explained how. The book was like movie with a really bad script, anything and everything was happening.
The author had declared in his acknowledgements, “I am sure it (History Revisited) will be a n exciting and an unforgettable journey for all sci-fi fans out there. I am a sci-fi fan and I will not forget to tell my reading friends that they can gladly give this one a miss.
