Interview: Nishant Joshi author of ‘History Revisited’
Nishant Joshi, author of sci-fi novel ‘History Revisited’ is an engineering student of Electronics and Telecommunication at Mumbai University. He has grown up in an era that was full of science fiction elements be it television cartoons like Shaktiman and Dragon Ball Z, films like Spiderman and Star Wars or the never ending list of science fiction computer games. Nishant was greatly inspired by them but was unhappy about not finding anything as such in his own country except a handful of such things but which were completely restricted only to epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata. Would you call them Science fiction!?! Therefore, he set out on his journey to pen down sci-fi novels since our country is literally void of it. The taste of especially the youth of our country is very different and the wise will see that it’s bending towards science fiction. Thus, he feel impelled to contribute as much as possible to science fiction which is going to be the landmark and milestone of the present and the coming future.
‘History Revisited’ is a science fiction. Meet Nishant, Suraj and Sachin, three “unlucky” guys. Finding themselves stuck in the thirty-fifth century B.C after being plunged by a near death experience into a time portal, their luck flips around. They find themselves trapped in a bloody conflict raging between two opposing dynasties. They stumble upon a dynastic princess and her new born baby and resolve to unite her with her prince from the opposing dynasty.
During their quest, they must seek a time locator that could allow them to return to their own time but not before they discover fantastical weapons which give them various supernatural powers. Overseeing the evil in the world, a demonic sorcerer wields the blackest magic and destroys the whole dynastic army.
Can the three stop him or will they, like the army, perish in the attempt? Will they be able to finally return to their own time? Can they overcome their bad luck or has destiny planned something else for them?
In an exclusive interview with Readersland.com, Nishant talks about his journey as an author and his interest on Sci-fi plots.
RL: How did the idea of writing a sci-fi novel came to your mind?
Nishant: Well I am a 90’s kid and I have grown up watching sci-fi and fantasy programmes and movies like Shaktiman, Spiderman, Harry potter and my favourite Dragon Ball Z just to name a few. So I was greatly inspired by them but finding nothing indigenous sort of troubled me. Hence I set on my journey to write home grown awesome sci-fi and fantasy stories which can be enjoyed by people across all ages especially by teenagers.
RL: Being an engineering student, how did you discover writing talent within yourself?
Nishant: I liked reading and writing from my childhood and I had written various short stories and poems while in my teenage years. I used to upload my short stories on the internet as well as on my blog nishantindia.com. Even History Revisited initially started as a short story but even after writing 3000 words I wasn’t able to put an end to it. Many more ideas floated in my mind waiting to be unleashed in the form of words and that is how History revisited came to life.
RL: What was your inspiration to write the novel?
Nishant: My inspirations were all the small and big incidents that occurred in my life. My inspiration was my determination to bring the sci-fi genre to limelight especially in India. My inspirations were all those sci-fi and fantasy novels, cartoons, movies and video games that I have read, watched and played.
RL: Do you believe in supernatural activities?
Nishant: No 21st century human believes in it but we have to accept that we all experience it in one form or the other.
RL: Please tell us something more about your novel ‘History Revisited’.
Nishant: It’s a complete action packed adventure and people across all ages will equally enjoy it. If you love Harry potter, Star Wars, Shaktiman and Dragon Ball Z, then you must definitely include this one in your reading list.
RL: Are you working on any other book?
Nishant: My life will be pretty boring if there is nothing to read as well as to write. I am always either writing or reading some or the other thing.
I have already completed my 2nd manuscript which is a space opera series ‘CREATION WARS: THE EARTH UNITES’ and I am proud to say that it has cleared the 1st stage of inspection by Olympia publications, London. I have sent my complete manuscript for the 2nd stage of inspection and am waiting for their reply with my fingers crossed.
Meanwhile I have also started with my third book which is my first fantasy novel “THE THREE WISHES” though the title is tentative. I am a regular blogger and daily write short stories and book reviews on my personal blog nishantindia.com.
